Learn how the Elation EHR integration works within ChronicCareIQ. This article provides an overview of how patient clinical data from Elation, such as integration endpoints, appointments, medications, allergies, & bulk patient demographics, can be accessed and synced to support care coordination and accurate patient records.

Clinical Tab Sync – Patient Data from Elation
Overview
If a customer has both the Elation integration and Care Plan Builder enabled, users can manually fetch patient clinical data directly from the Clinical tab in the patient’s chart.
The Clinical Tab Sync allows the system to retrieve the following patient data from Elation:
Patient Appointments
Patient Medications
Patient Allergies
This ensures the patient’s clinical information remains consistent between Elation and ChronicCareIQ.
Patient Appointments (Clinical Tab Sync)
Overview
If a customer has both an Elation integration and the care plan builder turned on, then they can manually fetch a patient’s appointments from the Clinical tab of the patient’s chart.
Scheduling in Elation
As a physician (provider) in Elation, you can schedule your time blocks for yourself and other physicians. The time blocks can represent anything that may be on a calendar – not necessarily an appointment.
Non-appointment time blocks are never tied to a patient, so, for this data feed, we only care about fetching the appointments of a patient.
Scheduling a time block can be done using the calendar on the Practice Home screen.
What’s Information May Be Attached to an Appointment in Elation?
When creating an appointment in Elation, the following fields are required:
Patient
Appointment Type
Date
Start Time
Duration
Provider
In-person vs. virtual flag
The following fields are optional:
Recurrence
Description
Location
Visit instructions
Billing Notes
Patient Payment
Referring Provider
State
Patient Medications (Clinical Tab Sync)
Overview
If a customer has both an Elation integration and the care plan builder turned on, then they can manually fetch the medications of a patient from the Clinical tab of the patient’s chart.
Elation Patient Medications
We get the following information from Elation regarding patient medications:
name
directions
start date
This is required
order_type
This can be ‘refill’, ‘new’, or ‘change’, but we only take medications with an order_type of ‘new’
Discontinued Medications
We do not import any medications from Elation for a patient that have been discontinued – to ignore such medications, the Thinkitive bridge passes a flag when hitting Elation’s API
(?discontinued=false).
Patient Allergies (Clinical Tab Sync)
Overview
If a customer has both an Elation integration and the care plan builder turned on, then they can manually fetch the allergies of a patient from the Clinical tab of the patient’s chart.
Allergies in Elation
Elation provides the following information about a patient’s allergies:
The Elation ID of the allergy
The status of the allergy
‘Active’ or ‘Inactive’ – we ignore inactive allergies
The start date of the allergy
This field is not required in Elation
The reaction(s) the patient has to the substance they are allergic to
The name of the substance the patient is allergic to
The severity of the allergy
‘Mild’, ‘Moderate’, ‘Severe’
Bulk Patient Demographics
Overview
Bulk patient demographics are fetched from Elation on a regular cadence. The retrieval runs as a background process, meaning there is no need for manual input with retrieval.
How It Works
Upon first run for a customer, our system will fetch the demographics of all their patients that were modified in the last year. After the first run, our system will fetch the demographics of patients modified since the last run every 15 minutes.
Included Fields
CCIQ obtains all ‘normal’ demographics fields of patients during syncs, including full name, DOB, phone number(s), email, etc.
Additionally, Elation offers us insurance information of the patient, as well as the patient’s status.
Patient Status
A patient in Elation can be:
Active
Inactive
Prospect
Deceased
We import patients with any of the status other than prospect. In other words, if a patient is active in our system but we get their demographics and they say they are inactive or deceased, the patient should be updated accordingly in CCIQ.
Deleted Patients
Patients can be deleted in Elation. If they are, we do not import them into CCIQ.
