SmartMeter devices require a cellular data connection in order for patients to transmit readings to your CCIQ monitoring dashboard. However, there is no cost to the patient for the cellular service used by SmartMeter devices. If patients normally use a cell phone at home and get adequate cell coverage, then the devices should generally have no trouble connecting and transmitting readings.
However, if the patient lives in a location that does not have adequate cellular coverage, then the device may be unable to transmit readings to the application. A good way to see if your patient’s location will work for SmartMeter devices is to check the ATT coverage map as SmartMeter utilizes ATT’s Cellular Network. Patients may wish to consider one or more of the following options:
Provide guidance on other methods of reporting readings, such as manual entry in ChronicCareIQ.
If the patient can find a location where they are able to get adequate cellular coverage, the device can be turned on and it should transmit any readings that have not yet been sent.
If the patient currently has cell phone service, the cell service provider (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc) may be able to provide a device for their home that will boost the cellular signal and give them better coverage within their home. The patient will need to inquire directly with their cell service provider.
